Women Who Inspire – Interview with Anna Metelska

Tell me a little bit about yourself and your work

My name is Anna. I am the community manager at Geekle. Currently, I am working on 3 events – React Global Summit, Flutter Global Summit. Vol 2 and Robotics Global Summit. Also, I am a Ph.D. student in political science. Before joining Geekle I tried several fields such as catering, stock market trading, customer support, media market.

How did you come into your current field? Could you please share a bit of the background

I used to travel a lot and after I came back from my last trip from India I got a proposal to join Geekle. I agreed as it was only one option where I could combine my management skills, events, and ability to be useful for others.

What’s the most interesting work you have done so far in your current field?

I can say that the current job offers exciting challenges and allows me to do something new every day. I meet new people, who share their experiences and information. Also, I had never managed the online event 37 hours in 3 days before. So it’s an amazing experience.

What motivates you?

Results of my work motivate me the most. Attendees’ and speakers’ feedback give me the energy to move further.

Who Inspires you and why?

I don’t have my personal idol, but people who are working for others inspire me a lot.

What would you like to do in the future in the current field or another?

I have tried so many things and it’s so hard to predict. For now, I am in love with my work if it’s possible to say like this. But still, I have my hobby (sewing clothes), that hopefully can be the matter of my life.

The funniest incident you can remember.

When I just came to Hyderabad, India, it was literally my first day there and I went to a shopping mall and like 50 people around me were talking and I heard only “Anna, Anna, Anna”. I was so surprised and disappointed at the same time, I had only one thought “How is it possible” and then my friend explained to me that Anna means something like an older brother and polite way to call each other. But I still can react to all Anna nearby even after 18 months in India.

Where do you spend most on clothes, perfumes, jewellery, or any other?

Clothes and make-up. The problem is that I don’t have places where to wear all dresses, that I am buying and sewing because of quarantine. So I am trying to add to my wish list when I want to buy something and then I can just forget. It saves a lot of money.

What do you do when you are not working?

Sport, writing my Ph.D. work, spending time with my friends and dogs. I have five dogs.

Could you share any of your upcoming work, people should look for?

  • React Global Summit https://events.geekle.us/react/
  • Flutter Global Summit Vol.2 https://geekle.us/flutter

Where can people find you online?

A message you would like to give to the women of the world, to inspire them.

If you really want something, you will get it. You shouldn’t be afraid to try. And It’s fine to try several times and it’s fine to change your work, if you don’t like it, it’s fine to say “NO” if you don’t want to do something, and it’s also fine to say “YES” to all your dreams, wishes, and possibilities. Just dream and follow your heart
